Nace en Civittavecchia, Roma en 1778. Tras estudiar en el Conservatorio della Pietà dei Turchini en Nápoles, se dedicó a la escritura de óperas, que fueron representadas en Lisboa y Londres. De 1809 a 1814 fue director de orquesta en el King’s Theatre de Londres y más tarde acompañó a la cantante Angelica Catalani en sus giras por Europa, regresando a Italia en 1817. Continúa su actividad como compositor teatral en Roma, Venecia, Trieste y Milán, ciudad en la que fallece el año 1861.

Es autor de más de veinte óperas.
