THE TECHNICIAN

studied telecommunication engineering at the Technical University of Vienna and, since 1973, has worked as chief technician in the Phonogrammarchiv of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. He specialized in re-recording historical mechanical sound carriers, mainly cylinders and Shellack discs; moreover he had built a modern re-recording device for playing cylinders, a machine which nowadays is in use in the Berlin Phonogrammarchiv, in the Library of Congress in Washington, in St. Petersburg etc. He also was engaged in the re-recording of various historical collections, e.g. in Jerusalem, Riga, Vilnius,Tbilisi, Aarhus and Berlin and he is in demand to lecture the basics of re-recording, the history of gramophone companies and discography.

 

 

The Phonogrammarchiv of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna owns an important collection of cylinders of music and spoken word in Basque recorded by Rudolf Trebitsch in the Basque Country in 1913.
